Aluminium scaffolding that can be used in almost countless configurations. Our general purpose system is the core of the Alulite range and the product most of our customers end up using, because it adapts to almost any job. Components lock together without tools to form a structure that is quick to erect and easy to dismantle, and because everything is interchangeable you can reconfigure the same set of components for the next job rather than buying a different system.

We manufacture the entire range in Western Australia, so we hold stock, we can supply single components, and we can get scaffold onto your site quickly.

Mobile Scaffold Towers in Five Widths

The system is built around five standard widths, each available in 1.8m, 2.4m and 3.0m lengths:

  • Single Width (SW), 0.75m wide:the narrow option. Fits through doorways and along tight side access, ideal for internal work, stairwells and confined residential access.
  • Full Width (FW), 1.35m wide:the general workhorse. Enough platform space for a worker and materials, suited to most painting, rendering and maintenance work.
  • Extra Full Width (EFW), 1.95m wide:greater platform area and a broader base, which allows a higher platform before outriggers are needed.
  • Quad Width (QW), 2.5m wide:a wide, low set configuration for work that needs a large stable working area.
  • Extra Quad Width (EQW), 3.1m wide:the widest base in the range. The broad base area can substitute for outriggers and ties in some installations, which is useful where there is nothing to tie to.

Base frames give a 2.0m height, adjustable to 2.3m on castors, and upper frames come in 2.0m, 1.6m, 1.2m, 0.8m and 0.4m heights so you can build to the working height you actually need. Full specifications are set out on our scaffold dimensions page.

What General Purpose Scaffolding Is Used For

Because the system is modular, the same components cover a wide range of applications:

Why Aluminium Makes the Difference

Our components are proven strong and durable, yet light in weight. On a practical level that means one person can carry a frame, a two person crew can erect a tower in a fraction of the time a steel system takes, and you are not damaging paving or lawn moving it around. Aluminium is also naturally corrosion resistant, which matters in Perth where a lot of work happens within reach of coastal air.

  • No tools required:components lock together, so there is nothing to lose on site.
  • Interchangeable:every component works with every other component in the range.
  • Rust resistant:suitable for long term outdoor and coastal use.
  • Compliant:manufactured to AS/NZS 1576.
  • Repairable:damaged components are readily replaced rather than writing off a system.

Working Height, Base Dimensions and Outriggers

There is a straightforward rule that governs how high you can safely build a mobile tower. In an exposed outdoor area, the platform height should not exceed twice the least base dimension. In a sheltered indoor area, it should not exceed three times the least base dimension. Outriggers can be attached to increase the effective base dimension, which allows the platform to be raised accordingly. Use single outriggers when working against a building or structure, and double outriggers when working in an open area away from a structure.

Our standard base configurations page shows worked examples, and our scaffold assembly instructions set out the erection sequence step by step.

Hire or Buy General Purpose Scaffolding

Available either way. Scaffolding hire suits a single project, and we handle delivery, erection by qualified scaffolders, and collection. Scaffolding sales suit trades using scaffold regularly, and because we manufacture locally you can start with a basic tower and add frames, braces and platforms as your work demands more. Either way you are dealing with the manufacturer, which means better stock availability and better advice.

General Purpose Scaffolding

FAQs About General Purpose Scaffolding in Perth

General purpose scaffolding is a modular system designed to be assembled into a wide range of configurations rather than being built for one specific task. Alulite general purpose aluminium scaffolding uses interchangeable frames, braces and platforms that lock together without tools, so the same components can be built into a narrow internal tower one week and a wide multi bay system the next.

Five. Single Width at 0.75m, Full Width at 1.35m, Extra Full Width at 1.95m, Quad Width at 2.5m and Extra Quad Width at 3.1m. All five are available in 1.8m, 2.4m and 3.0m lengths.

Outdoors in an exposed area, the platform height should not exceed twice the least base dimension. Indoors in a sheltered area, it should not exceed three times the least base dimension. Fitting outriggers increases the effective base dimension and allows a higher platform.

Where the platform standing level is four metres or more above ground level, erection and dismantling must be carried out or supervised by a person holding a current Certificate of Competency, with a Basic Scaffolding Licence as the minimum. Below that height a licence is not required, but the scaffold must still be erected correctly and in accordance with the regulations.

The components are light enough for one person to handle, but we recommend working with another person whenever you are erecting or dismantling scaffolding. Some steps, particularly lifting upper frames into position, are safer and easier with two people.

Yes, and it is very commonly used indoors. The single width configuration at 0.75m fits through standard doorways, and aluminium will not mark floors the way steel can. Indoors you also get a higher permissible platform height relative to the base, because the area is sheltered.

A mobile scaffold tower is one thing you can build with a general purpose system. The general purpose range is the set of interchangeable components, and a tower on castors is its most common configuration. The same components also build static scaffold, multi bay runs, walkway supports and shade structures.

Yes. Every Alulite component is interchangeable and we manufacture locally, so you can buy a basic tower now and add frames, braces, platforms or outriggers whenever the work calls for it. You are not locked into a fixed kit.
